In this third edition of his practical little handbook, Dr. Gibbes has introduced a quantity of new matter and subjected the previous edition to revision. The chapters entitled " On Bacteria " and " On Staining Bacteria " consist merely of a few isolated extracts on the subject from certain journals, when a well-digested summary would be much more acceptable. Special manuals on Bacteriology are of course now available to those interested in that subject. References, however, might be given to these
